"A little learning can go a long way."
Instructions for seeing the note your singing (or playing with instrument):
Features:

Shows you the note on a musical staff (bass and treble clefs)

Lets you choose the key signature that the clefs use

Lets you shift the note to any octave you want to see
-
Plots the pitch on a plot so you can see if you are sharp or flat
-
Lets you see plots of frequency and sound data
Procedure:

Select which key signature you would like to see (the default is the key
of C)

Press the button labeled "Listen"

You can now sing into your computer's microphone. You will see the
note shown in both the clef and on the pitch plot

Observe the note you are singing in the pitch plot (notes drawn in blue
are part of this key, and notes in black are accidentals).

If you want to see plots of frequency or sound data just click on the expansion
button in the lower left of the window.

When you are done, click the button which is now labeled "Stop"
Instructions for Playing a Tuning Note:

Let's you easily hear the exact note you want to

You get to choose the note

You get to choose the octave
Procedure:

Find the section titled "Play Tuning Note" in the lower-right corner

Use the dropdown labeled "Note" to select the note

Use the dropdown labeled "Octave Shift" to select the octave

Press the "Tune" button to hear the note
When you are done, press the button again to stop it
